In the Rodin Sculpture Garden: Adam
These lists are just beginning to take shape...there's more to come!
Many of us like books—and are eager to find new titles/authors/subjects that make worthwhile reading. Given the nature of our faculty fellowship groups, among the lot of us we must surely have thousands of titles under our collective belt. This page is an attempt to share that knowledge and make our favorites (or otherwise notable works) known to each other. Despite the name, they aren't limited to ten titles, either!
As this page develops, we hope to develop lists in the following categories (interpret "book" loosely to include short stories, journal articles, etc.):
Regarding the last item, e.g., in particle physics there are many books for the non-specialist at the introductory to intermediate level: many are good, some really good, and a few...well, let's just skip them! One could imagine a physicist, wanting to become conversant with issues of current importance, might be delighted to find good books in other fields: economics (ramifications of proposed tax plans?), art, law, history, public policy (what are the pros and cons of various ways to deal with poverty, lack of education?), biology (when does life begin?), medicine (cloning of humans?), etc. These lists might be helpful in directing us to good titles with little effort on our part.
These lists are one way we can assist each other with the desire to be responsible intellectuals in modern society: love God with all your mind!
