Local Martial Arts

These are local martial art schools and programs with which we are personally familiar with or about whom we have heard good things.

SMAP (Stanford Martial Arts Program)

The governing body of more than a dozen martial arts clubs on Stanford's campus, including the Stanford Jujitsu Club.

Kodenkan Jujitsu School

A school in Santa Clara which teaches Danzan Ryu jujitsu, a style somewhat similar to Zen Budokai and in which some of our members have trained. Also teaches restoration therapy.

Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

Jujitsu academy run by Ralph Gracie of the famous Gracie family. Nationally competitive at tournament jujitsu. Some of our members have trained at the Mountain View branch.

Palo Alto Judo Club

Meets at JLS Middle School on East Meadow Blvd. in Palo Alto.

Krav Maga San Francisco

Israeli martial art known for its simplicity and effectiveness; compliments our style of jujitsu nicely and some of our members have cross-trained here.

City College of San Francisco Judo Club

Excellent judo club run by Mitch Palacio, an excellent judo instructor; they also teach jujitsu.

  • US Army Combatives Manual - the offical hand-to-hand combat techniques of the US Army
  • Ong Bak - arguably the best martial arts film ever; muay thai never seemed so impressive.
