Dana Gioia‘s term heading the National Endowment for the Arts is still paying dividends. More than 6,000 American troops and their spouses took part in a two-year NEA project to write about their war experiences when Gioia, MBA ’77, was chairman. Some of their work has been turned into books, and even an HBO movie. “Through their writing you get a real sense of the level of intelligence, experience, and education that today‚Äôs military is made up of,” Gioia told Stars and Stripes in an article about one of NEA’s warrior poets.
