UCLA, California. Sunday January 15th
Stanford overcame a 24-0 deficit to beat Oregon State in the 3rd Place final at UCLA on Sunday. The match was a thrilling finish where the Cardinal rallied before the half to close the score to 24-14. They continued to climb back into the game in the 2nd half and took a 28-27 lead with minutes left. At the final whistle they touched down once more to bring the final tally to 35-27. The win capped off a valuable development weekend for Stanford in which over forty players played. On day one, Stanford struggled but continued to improve performance to performance, dropping early matches to Oregon State and UCLA before finishing the day with a 14-14 tie against USC. On Sunday, Stanford JV’s lost to UCLA JV’s in another match that featured valuable player development and experience. The Varsity team the put in the dramatic come from behind performance against OSU in a contest that featured the highest level of play from the Cardinal over the weekend earning a valuable win and momentum for the team leading into a tough stretch that will feature non-conference matches against two of the nations strongest teams, Cal in the ‘Scrum Axe’ game and St. Mary’s College.
