Key focus areas are healthcare analytics, computational social science and policy, innovation and entrepreneurship, and the future of organizations and organizing. ALUMNI OUTREACH

MS&E Reunion Attendees Enjoy a Lively and Informative Event


Nearly 200 classmates and friends came together from varied geographic, professional, and personal backgrounds to reconnect, hear talks from MS&E researchers, and enjoy a festive brunch. A pop-up bookstore, conversation topic tables, and photo ops added to the opportunities for connection.  

Lectures about the changing nature of work by MS&E Professors Ron Howard, Pamela Hinds, and Tina Seelig were followed by a Q&A.

Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP) unveiled a new design for eCorner, their entrepreneurship education website, "to help entrepreneurs venture boldly."  Visitors to the website can benefit from both quick tips and deep information dives into topics.

MS&E PhD Students Awarded Stanford VPGE Fellowships


Seven of MS&E's talented PhD students became Stanford Vice Provost for Graduate Education (VPGE) fellows this year.  Supported by endowment and general funds, the fellowships are designed to attract the most talented students to Stanford's doctoral programs, and to honor and support our most outstanding current doctoral students.  Read their research profiles here...

MS&E Faculty News 


Professor Itai Ashlagi and his former MIT student Professor Peng Shi (USC) won the MSOM Service Management SIG Best Paper Award from INFORMS for their work matching students to Boston public schools for "efficiency, equity, and predictability."

Professor Sharad Goel and collaborators from Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard and Microsoft Research created a probabilistic model to determine the rate of double voting in U.S. elections.  They discussed their findings and the current political implications in Slate, and Goel was interviewed by the podcast "This American Life."  

Professor Riitta Katila discusses the liability of having too many experts on innovative startup teams in a recent article in Harvard Business Review.

Former MS&E student (PhD '16) USC Professor Szechuan Suen and Professor Margaret Brandeau, along with collaborator Professor Jeremy Goldhaber Fiebert (Stanford School of Medicine), received the 2017 Pierskalla Best Paper Award from INFORMS for their work determining the right timing for drug sensitivity testing in TB patients in India.

Congratulations to Professor Kathy Eisenhardt for receiving the 2017 Prahalad Distinguished Scholar-Practitioner Award from the Strategic Management Society for career achievements in the field.

Professor Emeritus Sig Hecker appeared on 60 Minutes to discuss North Korea's nuclear secrets.  Watch it here.
