Elections

This week we focus on the upcoming election. The presidential race is now set: Jonathan v. Buhari. For those not familiar with Buhari, the two stories provide a quick background on his longtime involvement in Nigerian politics/military. I think the BBC article brings up an interesting point: the notion of the PDP candidate rotating between a Muslim northerner and Christian southerner. I am not sure how that will factor in, if at all, into Jonathan’s in-party support/his bid for re-election, but its definitely something to think about, especially since Buhari hails from Katsina State and adheres to Islam. The last article provides a nice overview.

Boko Haram

The group continues to decimate Jos. The two articles below will give you an overview of the terror group’s most recent exploits. You can assure yourselves that each candidate’s ability, or lack thereof, to fight and contain Boko Haram, will play a large role when it comes to selecting the most capable individual for the job.
