Dr. Liu is interested in NK cell biology, the polymorphic leucocyte Ig-like receptors and their interactions with HLA class I. He received his Ph.D. at Ocean University of China, where he developed subunit and DNA vaccines against Edwardsiella tarda and studied the immune responses of aquatic animals after vaccination. He received a Newton International Fellowship from the Academy of Medical Sciences, UK, which supported him to conduct two years postdoc in studying the evolution of cytokines at University of Aberdeen under the supervision by Prof. Chris Secombes. His current work focus on interaction of LILRB1 polymorphism with HLA class I and cytomegalovirus UL18.
