Iran Presidential Election Coverage

Presidential Election
[click on the poster to enlarge]

Iran's national TV has scheduled 6 one-on-one debates for the candidates in the upcoming presidential election. We have chosen three of these debates to show live at Stanford.

Due to the non-political nature mandated by its constitution, the PSA does not officially support or endorse a particular candidate; however, we certainly encourage discussions and exchange of ideas as long as they are respectful of all candidates. It certainly matters to every one of us who becomes the next president and we would be glad to relay reliable and useful information about presidential hopefuls to our dear members.

    • Where: Timoshenko Lounge, Rains Houses (Map)

Similar to the Poetry Night, we have an open floor with an open theme. But let's cover some *important* Rules of the Game for those who are unsure of the format for this event:

    • Short stories only! You will be allotted 15-20 minutes for your story.
    • Stories that are shorter than 8 pages long (regular book size paper, single-spacing, normal (10-12) font-size) generally fit well in this time period.
    • Since we do have a limited amount of time and (hopefully!) a large number of story-readers, we ask you to please read the story aloud to yourself and make sure it is not too long.
    • It would be great if you could give a brief introduction about the writer of the story and his/her significant contributions. This is a great opportunity to learn about talented writers one has not come across.
    • There is no restriction on the type and genre of the story or nationality of the writers.
    • There is no obligation to read a story. Just drop by to dive into the wonderful world of stories!
There are a few great resources you can use to find short stories:
    • The best resource we certainly recommend is the PSA collection at the Stanford Libraries. The easiest way to search for these titles is to go to Socrates, and search by subject with the keyword "Simin Daneshvar". You can also browse the collection of Persian literary books on the third floor of Green Library under "PK".
    • There are numerous websites on the internet with a large repository of interesting stories. Dibache is one of these websites. You can also find a sample reading of a short story here, which is similar to what we have in mind.
    • Another useful source is Radio Zamaneh's section on short stories. For more information please click here)
We are very excited about this new event and hope you are too!

"Why didn't you do your homework?" is a simple question kids are posed to and their thoughts on both being punished and rewarded in a very culture-bound setting results in a very emotional and interesting movie.
