Wedding Music

Memorial Church Wedding Music Information

The following information outlines how music is arranged for weddings held in Memorial Church. Almost every wedding has organ music; some also include a vocalist or trumpet player.

Please note that during the academic year (October through May) the University Organist, Dr. Robert Huw Morgan, does not play for weddings. He has several excellent substitutes with many years of experience playing at Stanford and other venues. Couples who have scheduled during this time will be contacted directly approximately two months prior to the wedding date, with the name and contact information of the confirmed organist.

Only classical‐style music or music from an established religious tradition is performed in Memorial Church.  Couples receive a CD containing selections of organ and vocal music. The CD gives some idea of what this means. For example, popular music such as Peter, Paul and Mary’s “The Wedding Song”, selections from Broadway musicals, movie themes, etc., is not allowed.

Once the selections have been made, couples should email, USPS mail or fax the music form indicating their selections. For approval of vocal and instrumental soloists, please call Dr. Morgan directly. All of his contact information is included below.

If Dr. Morgan is playing, a check for $300 should be made payable to “Stanford University” with “University Organist” on the lower left memo line must be sent to the Wedding Coordinator at least three weeks prior to the wedding. If another organist is scheduled to play at the wedding, the check should be made payable directly to the assigned organist.
