Access takes center stage
Section 508, an amendment to the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, requires
federal agencies electronic and information technology be accessible to
people with disabilities.

Fixes not so tough, disabled say
The good news about complying with Section 508 is that many fixes - although
they will have some cost - are relatively easy to make, especially when
systems are still under development.

Education's early groundwork
Three years before the Access Board drew up its accessibility standards, the
Education Department had created similar ones through the Assistive
Technology Program, which provides services and technology to the
departments disabled employees.
