From: Rehab Management Magazine - August / September 2000 - page 50

Presidential candidate Texas Governor George W. Bush has proposed a New
Freedom Initiative that focuses on improving assistive technology for the
disabled in order to bring more of the disabled community into the work
force. The initiative would triple funding for Rehabilitation Engineering
Research Centers (RERCs), such as the Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan,
North Carolinas Duke University, and Northwestern University in Chicago,
that receive federal funding through the National Institute on Disability
Rehabilitative Research.
