Using Palm Pilots to Help Control Computers

Dr. Brad Myers, leading a group of computer science and human-computer
interaction (HCI) researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, is interested in
studying how hand-held devices such as Palm Pilots can help people with
disabilities more easily use computers. The research group has already
created a wide variety of programs for business and home users. Some of these
programs let a Palm Pilot be used instead of the computer's regular mouse and
keyboard. The software allows complete control of a PC running the Windows
operating system using only small movements of a stylus or finger on the
3-inch Palm screen. Some of the software will also run on PocketPC devices,
such as the Casio Cassiopeia used by the Enkidu system.
