Stroke Victims

Engineers at Cardiff University (Wales, UK) are helping to create a device
that could accelerate the recovery rate for stroke victims. Known as Alladin,
the device will diagnose the precise state of a victim from the time of the
attack and throughout their recovery, enabling medical staff to determine the
correct treatment at each stage.

"We are developing data-mining for use in Alladin," said Dr. Anthony Soroka,
the research team leader at the Manufacturing Engineering Center. "This
searches through patient data to determine what each piece of information
means in terms of the patient's condition. By establishing these markers,
software can be developed to recognize conditions and prescribe treatments."

Instrumentation with sensors housing the software will convey information to
health professionals in the hospital and to the patient's doctor.
