NASA Center Develops 'Hot' New Technology

The University of Maryland's Center for Satellite and Hybrid Communications
Networks (CSHCN) has created a sensor the size of two AA batteries that can
be easily deployed on the battlefield or by future moon exploration teams.
Electrical engineering professor and center director John Baras says the
sensor could be thrown onto the battlefield and relay situational information
back to laptop-equipped soldiers, or used in space missions to communicate
environmental details or astronauts' health data to mission control. The
center is currently developing an even smaller version the size of a quarter.
