The computer is a powerful tool that nearly all of us use. We create personal
and work documents, use e-mail, get information from the Internet, play games
and use other applications.

For individuals with motor and/or sensory impairments, the computer can
provide invaluable communication opportunities. For people with motor
limitations, the keyboard can provide an independent means of written output
when handwriting is illegible, fatiguing or impossible. The computer is also
a means of obtaining information with reduced motor effort. For example,
reading the newspaper online, rather than getting the paper off the porch,
holding it open and turning pages. For people with sensory limitations, the
computer can magnify or read aloud text and graphics.

This article focusses on built-in tools that are available on a Microsoft
Windows platform, as well as some features included in Microsoft Word.
Features vary with the version of Windows that you or the client are using.
