IBM Accessibility ODF Coding Challenge 2006

The IBM Accessibility ODF Coding Challenge 2006 is an opportunity to showcase
students' unique brand of creative genius - to put their coding skills to the
test to potentially change the way people use and interact with technology.

Student contestants may choose one of the following two options:

1. Create an extensible accessibility validation tool for word processing
documents that are created in ODF (the Open Document Format .odt format).
The tool should parse documents and report output that validates
accessibility characteristics against the guidelines; or,

2. Submit a proposal, in 250 words or less, for code the student would like
to write to address an ODF accessibility issue they have identified.
Within 5 US business days, IBM will provide the student with a
recommendation regarding the technical feasibility of their proposal,
whether or not it may be possible to accomplish in the time frame of the
contest, and whether or not it conflicts with, or there are, equivalent
technologies available in Open Source. The student may then choose to
implement their proposal, or decide to pursue Option A.
