Agriculture & Manufacturing: Leveraging technological and financial innovation to create local value for Africa's economic growth

Room: M105 (11:00 am - 12:30 pm)

The UN predicts that more than half of the global population growth between now and 2050 is expected to occur in Africa, making it a fertile ground for incredible economic transformation. The past decade has seen an increasing emphasis on the role of science, technology, and innovation in this economic transformation. Yet, leveraging these tools to create concrete change, particularly in the agriculture and manufacturing sector, has remained a critical challenge. Channeling the progress in the agriculture and manufacturing sectors towards driving economic growth in Africa requires a great degree of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and creative problem solving to address both the current and future needs of the continent in a sustainable manner. How can change champions from the private, public, and social sectors collaborate to make a true difference in this space? What are the critical linkages that need to be forged to create local value in Africa? What kinds of investments, from both local and foreign entities, are actually needed to further this progress?
