Subsidized Child Care
In an economy with many single mothers, a substantial reduction in poverty could be secured by making child care more affordable, thereby increasing the available time for market work and raising income. At the federal level, the Child Care and Development Block Grant is the main source of child care subsidies, although states also transfer funds from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. Should these programs be expanded? Should others be developed? For more information, consult this Urban Institute study.
