SWEAT is StanfordMed's pre-orientation backpacking trip for incoming students. The trip takes place in the breathtaking Sierras, is sponsored by the Alumni Association, and is run by second-year med students. The program gives you the opportunity to get to know your new classmates as well as meet med students from other classes. This year we have an amazing group of leaders, so please, join us in this adventure! No backpacking experience is necessary. The hiking ranges from 1-10 miles per day, depending on what you mark as your preference at sign-up, and trails are chosen to accomodate people with all levels of experience and fitness. We’ll provide all the gear and supplies (tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, pads, cookstoves and food).
SAVE THE DATE
Move-in on campus on Thursday (8/18) and get ready to convene on Friday (8/19) at 3PM for orientation/gear pick-up. Trips depart Saturday AM and return Tuesday early afternoon. We promise you will have plenty of time to get settled in before classes start.
You'll be receiving official information about SWEAT in July. We'll need to receive 4 items from you: 1. Participant Questionnaire 2. Signed Waiver 3. Proof of insurance 4. $150 fee.
Our goal is to make SWEAT for everyone, so if you have any concerns (e.g. finances, disability, scheduling conflict, strong dislike of bugs, fear of dirt, never slept in anything less than a 5-star hotel, etc.) please contact us!
On the last day of the outing (8/22), all the groups come together for a SWEAT BBQ and the finale of the trip: SKITS! These are not to be missed. If you have a wedding/family reunion/XYZ reason you can't participate in the entire SWEAT trip, please let us know and we can work with you to figure something out: firstname.lastname@example.org
