Data on CD-ROM
Selected datasets from the SSDS CD-ROM collection are available upon request The Velma Denning Room. Datasets cover a broad range of social science topics and time periods from U.S. federal agencies, international organizations, national governments and independent producers. Please contact us should you wish to access a CD-ROM.
Accessing Data on CD-ROM from Computer Workstations
Follow the steps available at each workstation's desktop to access CD-ROM dataset programs. Most CD-ROM programs offer instructions viewing data and extracting results. Users can browse the CD-ROMs from U.S. federal agencies use the Superindent of Documents (SuDoc) format in the cabinets located in The Velma Denning Room. All other titles are cataloged in Library of Congress (LC) and can be found via the online catalog, Socrates. For titles not installed on our workstations, contact us to request installation. Full descriptions of each title are included in the online catalog SearchWorks.
Data on Diskette
Stanford users can access archived data and documentation in WinZip format via our secure Web site. Data may be available as Excel or WKS1 files or as part of a Windows or DOS-based program that users can download and install on personal computers.
