2014 Summer SSO Audition Excerpts

The following contains audition excerpts and information for the 2014 Stanford Summer Orchestra; audition information for the 2014-2015 Stanford Symphony Orchestra and Stanford Philharmonia Orchestra will be posted in June or July 2014. Auditions for the Stanford Symphony Orchestra and the Stanford Philharmonia Orchestra are open to all members of the Stanford community. Although students are given priority, we also welcome musicians from the local and non-Stanford community. Please visit our audition information page for more details and to sign up for our notification list.

A complete audition consists of repertoire pieces and a solo piece of your choosing. Each audition will be approximately 10 minutes long and will consist of two parts:

  • A solo work of your choice. This could be a part of a concerto, sonata, or a solo passage from a major orchestral work.
  • Orchestral excerpts. We have listed audition repertoire for each instrument. You can download and print them out using the links shown below. If you have difficulty getting music, contact orchestras@stanford.edu.

As part of the process in preparing for the audition, it is important that you listen to the professional recording of the excerpts. Note that Stanford affiliates have access to Naxos Music Library online, which provides music streaming of most major classical repertoire (link for off-campus users).

The following are the orchestral excerpts for the 2014 summer SSO auditions. You may sign up for an audition slot here (navigate to June).
