Articles are usually delivered as PDFs. You can view the status of outstanding requests.

Interlibrary Borrowing obtains materials that are not available at Stanford University and are needed to support the teaching, learning, research, and other University-related work of Stanford faculty, students, staff and visiting scholars. Terms of Use for eResources

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Licensed resources are for the non-profit educational use of Stanford University. Use of these resources is governed by copyright law and individual license agreements. Systematic downloading, distributing, or retaining substantial portions of information is prohibited.

As you may not be aware of what constitutes systematic downloading or retaining substantial portions, here are a few examples:

SciFinder: Maximum of 5,000 records can be stored by an individual user
eJournals: Downloading all articles from a single journal issue is considered systematic downloading. Downloading a number of articles within a short period of time is also considered to be systematic downloading (e.g. 20 articles / minute).
eBooks: Maximum is usually one chapter from an eBook. Third-party suppliers of eBooks often have a maximum of less than 35 pages.

Please note that exceeding the limits result in you being blocked and sometimes the entire campus being blocked from using all resources from an individual information provider.

When the terms of an agreement are exceeded, the Libraries are contacted by the information provider and asked to investigate why a breach occurred and what will be to insure that it won’t happen again before they restore access.

Many thanks for your cooperation! Please contact me if you have any questions about the terms of use for a particular resource.

Prototype for New Swain Library Web Pages — Feedback Wanted

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Efforts are underway to update Swain’s web pages. A protype of what the top level pages might look like was created with the center area in a 2-column format. As an alternative for the center area, we also mocked up the Quick Links page in a 1-column format. Do you prefer 2-column or 1-column format for center region?

To help insure that Swain’s pages meet your needs, please send comments and suggestions to graceb@stanford.edu. Many thanks in advance for your input!
