Drug Profile: Rabies Vaccine
RabAvert® is an FDA-approved vaccine that safely prevents rabies. It is a Purified Chick Embryo Cell vaccine used both for pre-exposure and post-exposure vaccination against rabies virus.
RabAvert® is the most widely used rabies vaccine worldwide.
Pre-exposure vaccination includes three 1-mL doses administered intramuscularly in the deltoid on days 0,7, and 21 or 28.
Post-exposure vaccination includes five 1-mL doses administered intramuscularly in the deltoid on days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28 along with human rabies immune globulin.
