Our goal is to develop an easy to use (no skilled technicians required) and ultraportable device (no laboratory equipment necessary) that is capable of immediate, sensitive, specific and multiplex protein assays for point of care (POC) screening of infectious disease at an affordable cost. The project includes developing biochemistry, portable electronics and microfluidics for medical diagnostics. In addition, we are developing a fast, cheap and accurate technology for determining the level of radiation exposure victims might suffer in a radiological incident. The technology would be able to sort through blood samples of victims on the scene swiftly, as well as in the lab, looking for concentrations of particular proteins, or "biomarkers," that reliably reflect the dose of radiation a person has received .
