Josh

Josh Sutcliffe

Director of Rugby (4th Year)

Josh re-joins Stanford as the Director of Rugby after working as an assistant coach from 2005-08. A native of Australia, he represented Australian Universities before moving to the USA. He continued to play domestically in the top club competitions and earned his international caps for the Philippine Volcanoes. While playing, Josh has held many different roles including working with USA Women’s Sevens Development Assistant Coach, UNCG Assistant Coach and Glendale Raptors Scrum Coach. He leaves his administrative role of Director of Coach Development with USA Rugby, where he focused on developing coaches at grass roots and elite levels.

 

Rich

Rich Ashfield

Associate Head Coach (3rd Year)

Rich joins Stanford Rugby after many years in the northeast including stints with Beantown Women’s Rugby and Boston Irish Wolfhounds. Originally from Northern Ireland, Rich started as Ulster & Ireland Rugby Football Union development officer after a childhood of playing experience. He arrived in Providence to play for three months and continues to grow rugby in the USA fifteen years later. In addition to coaching at the club level, Rich will continue as the skills coach for the USA Rugby Women’s National Team as they prepare for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2017.

 

Katrina Logan

Forwards Coach (11th Year)

Katrina has been an assistant coach on the women’s team since 2008. Her focus has been primarily with the forwards. She started playing rugby during her freshman year at Stanford and continued playing throughout her college years. She played on the Pacific Coach U-23 Pelicans and Pacific Coast Grizzlies regional select side teams for three years, and toured to England, Canada, and New Zealand with the USA U-23 National Team. More recently she played senior women’s club rugby with the Bay Area She Hawks and Berkeley All-Blues, and senior all-star rugby with the Pacific Coast Grizzlies. Currently, Katrina works as an attorney at a non-profit legal services organization.

 

Tom P

Tom Pulliam

Assistant Coach (5th Year)

Tom graduated from Stanford in 1969, where he played rugby as a scrum half. He continued his rugby playing career for many years after in the Bay Area, including many seasons with the B.A.T.S. (Bay Area Touring Side). After earning a law degree, Tom has had a long and successful legal career, and is now semi-retired.

 

Dr. Zack Vaughn

Team Physician (10th Year)

Originally from San Jose, California, Dr. Vaughn was previously a high-level soccer player competing with the USA National Soccer Team and was captain of the University of San Francisco Men’s Soccer Team. He received his medical degree from St. Louis University and completed both his orthopedic surgery training and a fellowship in sports medicine at Stanford University. He is a specialist of sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery and a full-time faculty member of the Stanford University department of Orthopedic surgery and has been a team physician for several local teams including Stanford University, and the San Francisco 49ers.  He now also works with the Golden State Warriors.
