Europa is the fourth largest of Jupiter's 16 known moons to be discovered. It is the sixth largest moon in the entire solar system (about 12% smaller than our moon). Because Galileo discovered Europa, it is known as one of the "Galilean" moons. Europa has a nearly circular orbit, and it orbits in the equitorial plane of Jupiter.

Most of Europa's major geologic features are visible on the surface. It has a thick ice crust (up to 100 km thick) with a possible ocean below it. If it does have an ocean, it is the only place other than Earth to have liquid water. It has an interesting resurfacing process which always leaves it with a clean surface unlike anything in the inner solar system: the ice melts from an internal heat source (some believe that tidal forces flex the crust and heat the interior of the moon), then the dirt sinks to the bottom of the ice, and the ice freezes again leaving a clean surface (so you don't ever have to pick up after your pet). Scientists think that its surface is younger than any other moon or planet in the solar system. The surface has narrow grooves, where the ice apparently cracked, more than 1,000 km long, and it has ridges 500 or 600 feet high.

Europa's surface is highly reflective -- 5 times more reflective than our own moon, so it's really easy to see (this also makes it good for interplanetary pizza delivery). The surface is also very flat, and there have only been 3 craters larger than 5 km in diameter found, so it's very hard to trip.

Europa even has an atmosphere (one of only the few places in the solar system where you will find an atmosphere), and the atmosphere is composed partly of oxygen. A small problems that the atmosphere is very tenuous, and the oxygen is not breathable. At the moment, therefore, you will have to continue to wear your spacesuit while outside.

There's even a very small chance of very primitive life on Europa. You therefore might have neighbors, but don't expect them to be very sophisticated or to talk Europa also is one of the highest priority targets in solar system exploration (so you know that you will have plenty of visitors).
