Top 100 meter times by NFL players

by Clint Cummins
(This was originally on wikipedia, but was deleted in April 2014, as some people felt it was "original research").

The 100 metres is one objective standard for comparing the speed of National Football League players. Modern races use fully automatic timing and wind speed is measured. An alternative standard for comparing speed is the 40-yard dash from the NFL Scouting Combine, but it is limited to more recent players, the start is hand timed, and wind speed is not measured. The 100m time may also give a multisport perspective on pure speed, since it can be run when an athlete has not trained specifically for football.

Three lists are presented: wind-legal, wind-assisted, and wind speed unknown / undocumented. An athlete may appear in more than one list, and a few appear twice in a single list - see the App (appearances) column. Pages for individual NFL players often present only the wind-assisted time; these should be improved to present both times or at least indicate if a single time is wind-legal or wind-assisted. Hand times are rounded up to the nearest .1 and .24 is added, to make them comparable to FAT[1]. The original hand times are shown in the Hand column.

These lists are for players with a reported time of 10.5 or lower (FAT or hand timed) in some wind category. Times above 10.5 are documented times for those players, usually in different wind categories.

Wind-legal times

These require an accurate wind gauge and a tail wind of at most 2.0 meters/second.
