single-channel video

The footage for this video was shot during a residency at SymbioticA in Perth, Australia, in 2008. Using an endoscopic camera and an artificial stomach, I dissolved many of the substances that have been ingested by people during states of despair to change their state of being, or to end it. Looking for something beautiful in these hopeless moments, I present the stomach's point-of-view as a landscape of chemical fireworks. The soundtrack is my remix of the Germsí cover of Sugar Sugar from 1977 featuring vocals by Darby Crash. Many thanks to SymbioticA, to Guy Ben-Ary for his assistance, and to Maggie Cowie, Chief Technician at the Clinical Training and Education Center in the School of Anatomy and Human Biology, University of Western Australia. Rest in peace, Mr. Crash.
