Columbine Spring in Wyman Canyon

Looking a little west of south from site 3, into a side canyon,
we see ephedra, indian paintbrush, rabbitbrush, and mountain mahogany
in the foreground, artemisia on the slopes, and bristlecone- and
limber-pine
miniforest in the near background. There's a bird-filled oasis fed by small
spring near the bottom of the slope in the "forest". During our July, 2000 visit,
Stu and Chris found a columbine garden in the marshy area below the spring.

Here in the "garden" we see grasses and columbines in the foreground and
pines in the near background and white-barked quaking aspen in the center
background.
