about

I have a PhD in philosophy from the University of Maryland, an MFA in creative writing from Syracuse University, and am currently a postdoctoral Lecturer at Stanford University. Before joining Stanford’s philosophy department, I was an Assistant Teaching Professor at Rutgers University, where I directed their Graduate Writing Program. I was once an industrial engineer and have written about my move away from that world for my undergraduate alma mater, Kettering University.

My research revolves around the value of literature and has appeared in the British Journal of Aesthetics and The Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism. It has also won the BSA Essay Prize and been featured on Aesthetics for Birds, a blog that makes philosophy of art accessible to everyone. And I have presented at numerous national and international conferences, including meetings of the American Society for Aesthetics, British Society of Aesthetics, and European Society for Aesthetics.

My short fiction has appeared in Conjunctions and Third Coast, among other places. A longer project is in the making.

If I’m not working or spending time with my family, I’m wakeboarding or snowboarding.
