I originally thought about my little 4 year old sister. Innocent, playful, and with endless discovery around her. I also thought about how she is, in a sense, alone in our family; being the youngest in the house--- by twelve years, compared to her next oldest sibling--- I imagine that she might feel left out from us due to her inexperience. My thoughts of her morphed into an abstract entity born in an unobserved part of the universe; perhaps a universe in itself. I thought about this universe being born with a simple start: ‘first.’

In the first part of the animation, I chose not to insert objects other than the text from the poem itself, since I wanted to communicate that this universe is empty and has nothing other than itself formed, so no other objects can exist until ‘birth.’ This universe realizing its existence is represented by ‘birth’ growing into the frame until it engulfs everything. Then, our universe realizes that it is utterly alone, since it is everything.

Within the negative spaces of solitude, our universe discovers something far more empowering: that it is pristine. After this revelation, colours emerge in the poem, representing acceptance. Parts of the universe in the warm golden shapes stretch across the frame and lay relaxed, in the freedom of being unwatched, and undiscovered. ~
