Welcome

I am a PhD candidate in Political Science at Stanford, specializing in political theory. I am interested in understanding how citizens should conduct the practice of politics from a moral perspective, including how their duties towards one another should shape their political choices and how circumstances should affect the range of means they are permitted to take in order to bring about change. These interests are directly shaped by the issues of today - how should we go about combating systematic discrimination and the power of money in politics? What kinds of actions should we take, and how should they be evaluated? What is the minimum we are required to do to combat injustice, and how far are we permitted to go? Are theft and corruption ever permitted? What about violence? These are the kinds of questions that drive my work, at the desk and in the classroom.

The purpose of this site is to share a little bit about my research and teaching interests. I hope you'll have a look around and if you have any questions or come across anything you find interesting, please feel free to send me an email at rbarlow1@stanford.edu.
