Search Fields

User Name - String
NetDB account names use the SUNet ID of the person. Search by either SUNet ID (account name) or full name. For best results, use the unique SUNet ID.

Example:
Search for person named Leland Stanford Jr.
Name: Full Name = Leland*Stanford*
Use the wildcard, in case the person has a middle name.

Active Account - Radio Button
Search for only active, only inactive or either.

Last Login - Date
Last Login is the last date that this User logged into NetDB.

Example:
Search for Users who have logged in since March 2, 2009
On or After = 3/2/2009

LNA Department - String
Users are LNAs for departments.

Example:
Find Users who support Chemical Engineering
Search for LNA Department = "Chemical Engineering"

Networking Consultant - String
The network consultant is the member of Networking Systems who supports Local Network Administrators. Search by full name.

Example: find all Users whose network consultant is Joe Consultant
Search for Network Consultant = "Joe Consultant"

Group - String/Checkbox
Group controls the User's access to records, IP addresses and Domain names.

Example #1:
Find all Users with Group rights to English
Search for Group = "English"

Example #2:
Find all Users who have All Groups access
Check box "Access to all groups"

Record Type Access - Radio Buttons/Checkbox
A User can only create/modify/delete records if the User has access to that record type. Use this field to look for Users with particular record type access.

Example: find all Users who have access to Domains and Users
Select radio button "access to:" and check boxes for Domain and User

Comment - String
Example:
Search for Users with comment mentioning "special" and "blue"
Search for comment = "*special*blue*".

Phone Number - String
Example:
Search for the phone number (123) 456-7890
Search for phone number = "?123? 456-7890"

Searches using fields which contain parenthesis, such as the phone number field, will fail if parenthesis are used. The workaround is to use asterisks (*) or question marks (?) in place of parenthesis.

E-Mail Address - String

Default Domain - String

Default Address Space - String

Default Group - String

Modified By - String
Modified By is the last User to change this record. Search by either SUNet ID or full name. For best results, use the unique SUNet ID. Note that only one field can be used at a time.

Example:
Find records modified by either John Doe(jodoe) or Jane Doe(jadoe)
Search for "Modified By SUNet ID = jodoe or jadoe"
or "Modified By Name = Jane Doe or John Doe"

Modified Date - Date
Modified Date is the last time the record was modified.

Example:
Search for records modified on January 1, 2000.
On or After = 1/1/2000
Before = 1/2/2000

Created By - String
Created By is the User who created a record. Search by either SUNet ID or full name. For best results, use the unique SUNet ID. Note that only one field can be used at a time.

Example:
Find records created by either John Doe(jodoe) or Jane Doe(jadoe)
Search for "Created By SUNet ID = jodoe or jadoe"
or "Created By Name = Jane Doe or John Doe"

Created Date - Date
Created Date is the date that a record was created.

Example:
Search for records created on January 1, 2000.
On or After = 1/1/2000
Before = 1/2/2000

General Examples

1. Find all Users who are LNAs for Mechanical Engineering that have accessed NetDB in June 2009.
    Search with the following parameters
  • LNA Department = Mechanical Engineering
  • Last Login On or After = 6/1/2009
  • Last Login Before = 7/1/2009

2. Find all Users supported by Network Consultant John Doe who can modify Advanced Nodes in the Chemistry Group.

    Search with the following parameters
  • Network Consultant Name = John Doe
  • Record Type Access = access to Advanced
  • Group = Chemistry

Display

For intelligible results, it is usually important to show the field and any fields it is associated with. If a User is the LNA for several departments and you set the display to show network consultant but not department, the results may not make intuitive sense.
