Closed Note Exam Rules

For a closed-note exam, we want the room to be in a totally pristine, fair condition for everyone.

1. Students normally have a phone, bags, computers, smart watches, airpods, and whatnot as they work on campus. However, for the exam, it will be simplest if you do not bring any of those things with you. Just bring 2 pens or pencils, and that's it. Look on the course web page to lookup your assigned seat before coming to the room.

In particular, please do not wear a smart watch (a watch which can display a paragraph) or smart glasses to the exam.

2. If you do have a bag or phone or smartwatch or airpods with you for the exam, before we hand out the exams, you should silence the phone, put it and all your other material in the bag, seal it up and leave it at the front of the room for the duration of the exam. When we hand out the exams, every person should be in their assigned seat in a pristine, exam-ready condition, with no notes or phones or anything nearby. You can imagine someone absentmindedly pulling their phone out of their pocket out of habit, so that's why we want all that stuff zipped up and out of the way. If you see any illegitimate material during the exam, please let a staffer know.

3. If you need to go to the bathroom, please give a staffer your exam to hold.
