Assignment 6 Released

We've gone ahead and released Assignment 6: Linked Lists! It will be due next Friday, 11/14 at 11:59PM. This is a fun one (the labyrinth warmup is one of Yasmine's favorite in all of 106B) and we hope you enjoy it! If you need support, feel free to stop by LaIR, stop by Chris or Yasmine's OH, or ask a question on Ed!

No OH/LaIR Tuesday for Democracy Day!

Hi everyone! Just a reminder that Yasmine will not have OH on Tuesday, and LaIR will also be closed on Tuesday night for Democracy Day. We hope you enjoy your day off!

Midterm exam graded

Great work on the midterm, everyone! You can review your graded work through Gradescope. If you believe an error was made in grading something on your exam, you can submit a regrade request. Regrade requests will be open until Monday, November 10th at 11:59PM. In a regrade request, please be clear, detailed, and polite. If we have made an error, we are on your side in truly wanting to see it corrected! If you come in hot and aversarial, you undermine that partnership and your request will not be considered. Please take a look at the rest of Chris' guidelines in his email prior to submitting a request. You can view solutions here and get a link to download a Qt project with code solutions here.

Here are some statistics about the exam (out of 76 total points):

  • Maximum: 76.0
  • Mean: 56.2
  • Median: 59.0
  • Standard Deviation: 13.82

I also typed up some general exam taking advice which you can view here (make sure you're logged into your Stanford account). This is what I've learned throughout my time at Stanford, and the strategy I use for exam taking. Maybe some of the ideas there will float your boat and help you in preparing for the final exam! You've got this.

Assignment 5 Released

We've gone ahead and released Assignment 5: Priority Queue! It will be due next Friday, 11/7 at 11:59PM.

Note: if you downloaded the assignment starter code pre-3PM today (before this announcement was posted), the short_answer.txt file erroneously contained some short answer questions (in the ethics of prioritization section) that we will not be having you answer. Feel free to delete those placeholders, or redownload the starter code and use the updated `short_answer.txt`. If you need support, feel free to stop by LaIR, stop by Chris or Yasmine's OH, or ask a question on Ed!

Assignment 4 Released

Our fourth programming assignment, Recursive Backtracking, has been released and is available to start now! You will need to fill out the mid-quarter evaluation in order to gain access to the starter code. Thank you for filling this out! We really appreciate the feedback, as it helps us improve the course for you and students in the future.

Welcome!

Welcome to CS106B!

This is the website for CS106B for Fall 2025. We look forward to seeing you on Monday! Our recommendation would be to relax and focus on getting yourself situated on campus until then. But if you're feeling antsy to get started, one thing you can do is get our coding environment installed on your laptop. To do so, use these QT Creator installation instructions (you can also find this link under the Resources tab above). Please follow the instructions given at that link throughout the process, so you'll have the exact right version and settings for our class (don't just Google QT Creator and download).

For students with OAE accommodations, please submit your letters to this link. Additionally, we ask that OAE extension requests be submitted more than 24 hours before an assignment deadline, unless there are special circumstances.

Thanks and we look forward to seeing you soon!
