My image is of a curious pink octopus, Vander, who has escaped his tank at his professor's office to examine the shiny light while his buddy, Also Vander, looks on in horror. The inspiration for the image was to model an octopus, and Vander's story evolved from there. The octopus, the fish tank, the water droplets, and the room are all my own models from Blender, which all have my own textures on them (built in Photoshop). To work around the lack of transparency in my code, I created the transparent tank model in Blender with the green octopus inside, and then used the rendered Blender image to create the texture for my tank model in the final scene. The desk, books, eraser, and lamp are models taken from TurboSquid. These scene uses the Epic Shader and is lit by a directional light and a spotlight that I coded. The silhouette of Vander and the other shadows were made by implementing shadow mapping for the spotlight. I took additional samples from the shadow texture in order to soften the shadow edges with a little bit of noise. We'll see what Vander does next!
