1. Contributions: The vast the majority of the time we spent working on this project we spent together pair “programming”. We only worked individually for short periods of time on random occasions (i.e. making small tweaks to models, etc.). 2. Scene Description: Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The red stockings were hung by the brick chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of presents danced in their heads. The presents were scattered beneath the tree, an enticing sight for all to see. The tree was decorated with love and great heart, and the ornaments shone like luminous stars. The hearth was ablaze warming the cabin, as the snow came down as common in Aspen. The snowman stood tall, its Santa hat upright, a reminder that santa is flying all night. As dawn approached Santa yelled from great heights, "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!" (Credit: We used several lines from Clement Clarke Moore’s famous poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas” and modified them to describe our scene). 3. Implementation: We obtained the vast majority of the models we used online and strategically placed them into our scene. We retextured every (with the exception of the small snowman) model in the scene ourselves to improve the extent to which the colors fit in with our greater scene. We found the textures we used online, and modified some of them using photoshop to adjust darkness, color balance and other attributes to hem better fit into the scene. We built one of the models ourselves; the silver star at the top of the brick chimney. We also applied material properties to many of the objects, mostly focusing on the varying amounts of reflectivity we wanted various objects to have. In particular we represent ceramic and metallic materials accurately. We also used various types of lighting. We primarily used area lights to provide generic lighting for the scene because we liked the soft shadows they cast on the scene. We also used one orange point light to mimic the appearance of light emanating from the hearth. Lastly, we increased LARGE_EPSILON to eliminate several black dots that resulted from our scene’s large size.
