CS 161: Design and Analysis of Algorithms – Spring 2016
Grading and Homework Policies
Homework Submission:
- Homeworks are due at 12 noon on Fridays.
- To streamline grading, homeworks must be submitted on Gradescope.
- Handwritten homework is fine, but it must be scanned legibly!
- We reserve the right to not read excessively long homeworks in their entirety.
- Late homework will NOT be accepted.
- We understand that things come up throughout the quarter,
so we will drop your lowest homework grade.
- Because of this drop policy, we will not generally grant any extensions.
Collaboration/Outside Sources:
When solving the homework problems, you may consult the following
sources:
- lecture videos / notes
- the textbooks: CLRS and Kleinberg-Tardos
- Piazza: questions about the homework will NOT be answered between 10pm on Thursday and 12pm Friday, i.e. the night and morning before the homework is due.
You may also talk to student collaborators and the teaching staff,
but you should write up your solution independently.
If you collaborate with other students, state their names on your homework. If you use information from the web, write down the links.
Cite all sources.
During exams, no collaboration is allowed. No use of textbooks, lecture notes or Internet is allowed. The only material you may consult is 1 sheet (letter-size) of your own notes, front and back, that you may bring to the exam.
Final Grades:
Your final grade will be computed roughly as follows:
- Homework: 50%
- Midterm: 20%
- Final: 30%
