Due: 6PM the day before class (so I have time to read them)
Starting on April 23rd, we'll transition to the second half of CS340R. We'll start reading full length research papers that examine or use Rust, and discussing what we can learn about Rust programming from them.
Please send a writeup of each paper to the staff list by 6PM the day before we'll discuss it. Your writeup should focus on the Rust component of the work; based on your experiences, do the claims about Rust and its impact make sense?
If it's a paper about Rust itself, do its observations match your experiences? What do you think they miss? What do they get right? What did you learn?
If it's a paper about using Rust, do you think Rust is a good fit for the problem they solved? Do the Rust APIs make sense? Do you think there are further ways they could have used Rust in an interesting way? What isn't the paper saying – with your knowledge of Rust, what are they not telling the reader?
Your writeup should be 300 words or so. It doesn't need to discuss the intellectual context of the research result (although it can, if you want). I'd like you to focus on the choice of Rust and the tradeoffs you see.
Please send all summaries as text in an email body.
