ModViz, Inc., in San Mateo, CA, a recent spinout from Siemens AG, makes software that enables PC clusters (so-called "viz clusters") to support extremely high-performance, real-time 2-1/2D and 3D graphics. The company has OEM business partners and customers in the U.S. and overseas in the oil and gas, manufacturing, and viz-sim industries.
The use of PC-based viz clusters radically reduces the price of visualization and makes visualization available throughout organizations. This makes possible the sharing of visual information enterprise-wide, reforming traditional workflows and speeding decisionmaking and product time-to-market.
After demonstrating a viz cluster in operation, the speakers will discuss the history and evolution of computer-based visualization, its use in industry today, and speculate on its future in a ubiquitous-computing, perhaps grid-like environment.
Note: ModViz is seeking CS interns to join its development team. Contact Thomas Ruge.
