Carl Hewitt, an eminent AI researcher, visionary computer scientist, emeritus MIT faculty, and frequent EE380 speaker died December 7th 2022 at his home in Aptos, California. A memorial gathering was held on a rainy Saturday in Santa Cruz on January 14th followed by a well attended Zoom reception.
EE380 for January 18th 4PM will be a lightly moderated open Zope forum to discuss Carl’s contributions to Computer Science and Engineering and recognize their significance. Everyone attending is encouraged to participate and share both technical and personal comments. Please limit the number of slides you use, if any, to three (3). We prefer contributors to be on video and to have a release for their contribution. CLICK HERE for a release form.
For reference here is Carl’s published obituary from the Santa Cruz Sentinal and his Wikipedia page. Carl was a prolific author and published frequently andwidely. His work in progress often went to one or another of the open access repositories, for example Hal or arXiv.
