With StarOffice, Sun extends the .com business model to include productivity applications backed by Sun's comprehensive support services and training. It is available as a free download to users, service providers and educational institutions. Now, users no longer have to pay application licensing fees in order to gain access to a rich suite of productivity applications. BIOGRAPHY As Vice President and General Manager of Webtop and Application Software at Sun Microsystems, Inc., Marco Boerries is responsible for Sun's Webtop infrastructure and software strategy which includes webtop applications, the Common Desktop Environment, Netscape browser and StarOffice products. Mr. Boerries is the founder of Star Division, a leading provider of office productivity software. With more than four million users, StarOffice is available in eight languages and supports all major operating systems. Mr. Boerries' significant efforts over the last 14 years produced a robust, full-featured office productivity suite and successfully established the StarOffice brand internationally. Mr. Boerries began creating word-processing software at the age of 16 and founded Star Division in Luneburg, Germany in 1985 after an inspiring student exchange program at Palo Alto high school in "Silicon Valley".
