Quotes from the Class Discussion Forum:

"In her attempt to become a sexual agent amidst the pressures to be moral-chaste or slutty-immoral, Chantel both succeeds and fails. Her sexual agency only goes as far as having sex willingly, for pleasure, and without guilt. Tauba wrote that "Chantel's sexual agency is thoroughly degraded by the lack of intentionality with which she makes the decision not to abort." However, there is some agency in maintaining the power to decide (or to not decide) about what to do about being pregnant. "

"Instead of finding her “I do what I want, when I want” attitude refreshing or empowering, I found it selfish and disrespectful at times. While it’s great for her that she finds a guy with a car and more money than Gerard, she is awfully selfish in the manner that she dumps him. While it’s great that she expresses her opinion to her teacher and the principal, it would have been less disrespectful, and more to her advantage, to refrain from saying 'fuck' to them. Just saying whatever you want and treating people poorly doesn’t automatically make you some sort of heroine that’s in control."
