ME 111 - Stress, Strain, and Strength (3 units) - This course is designed to
complete student's understanding of the role that structural analysis plays in design.
Students will gain analytical skills to apply to the evaluation of structural integrity.
Finally, students will gain insight into mechanical conditions and mechanisms that
cause failure including yielding, fracture and fatigue.
Class Times:
Classes meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in 530-127 from
2:15-3:05 pm.
Problem Sessions:
Sessions will be held weekly to illustrate techniques and strategies for
solving problems and clarify any conceptual difficulties. Problem session

It is available in the bookstore. Your E14 (Statics and Mechanics of Materials)
textbook will also be useful.
Homeworks:
Homeworks are normally due on Wednesdays at the beginning of class.
Late work will lose 10% for 1 day late, 30% for two days late, and 50% for three or more days.
Homework will not be accepted after solutions have been posted on the web.
Graded homeworks will be returned in class. Those not picked up will be placed in the
ME 111 box on the second floor of Durand in the Division of Mechanics and Computation
office.
Exams:
There is one 90-minute midterm on November 1 and a final on Wednesday, Dec. 13th from 12:15-3:15 pm.
