Assignment:

Comment on a passage from the first chapter of Dostoevsky's Winter Notes, where he deals with his visit to Cologne, beginning with his visit to the Cathedral, the impressions of the Hohenzollern Bridge and ending with his purchase of a bottle of cologne and escape to Paris.

Comment especially on the technique of estrangement in his descriptions and the peculiarities of the narrator's voice.
