Working Bibliography
4% of quarter grade
due Wednesday, January 31st

The working bibliography consists of a partial list of the sources you will rely on for doing your research.   Using 3" x 5" index cards and employing MLA formatting (see NSMH, pp. 519-539), you will document potential sources of information for your research project.   In essence, this assignment is an exercise in finding and evaluating sources (for guidance, see NSMH, pp. 476-484).

Formatting guidelines also can be found on line: MLA

This working bibliography will consist of a minimum of twelve entries.   The top card of the stack (one separate from the entries) should include your name, the date, the name of the assignment ("Working Bibliography"), your e-mail address, and a brief (one or two sentence) description of your research project.   Use two strong rubber bands to bind these cards.

If you are expanding your Fall quarter's source-based argument, all but two of the entries for this assignment must represent new sources.

The following stipulations apply to this assignment only.   Of the twelve entries,
  • at least two must derive from online sources (you are limited to a total of three online sources).
Of the remaining nine or ten,
  • at least two must describe a periodical or journal (not a newspaper);
  • at least two must describe a recent book;
  • one (but not more than two) may be a newspaper (not required).
