Gardiner Wins Gold and Silver at 2011 Pan-Am Open International Championships
Monday, December 12th, 2011At the 2011 Pan-American Open International Championships in Las Vegas in October, OHS student Amanda Gardiner (2012) competed in four TaeKwonDo events and took home two gold and two silver medals. Earlier in June of this year, Amanda, who has been the Utah State Champion three years running and has qualified for a coveted spot at the US Nationals/Junior Olympics each year, had won another gold medal in weapons at the National Championship.
Amanda first became involved in TaeKwonDo about four years ago as a fun adjunct to her other athletic pursuits, soccer and horseback riding. Soon, however, she realized how much she loved the sport and committed herself to it with a single-minded determination to become the best. She started competing three years ago.
Outside of the spotlight, Amanda enjoys science and hopes one day to pursue a career in paleobiology.
