Installing Eudora

  1. Download the Eudora 6.2.4 OS X installer to your computer.

  2. Double-click the Eudora 6.2.4 OS X image on your desktop to open the Eudora 6.2.4 OS X folder.

  3. Drag the Eudora Application Folder to the Applications folder on your hard drive.

Configuring Eudora

Note: If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Eudora, your configuration settings are carried over.

The first time you launch Eudora you will be asked for some information in the Settings window. If the Settings window does not open automatically, go to the Special menu and click Settings.

  1. Open the Eudora Application Folder and double-click the Eudora icon.
  2. When asked if you want to use the system keychain, click No.

  3. When asked if you want to import mail from another program, click No to continue or click Yes to import settings and mail (follow the on-screen instructions).

  4. When asked if you want Eudora to be your default mail handler, click Yes if you want Eudora to be the mail application that opens automatically when you click on "mailto:" links on web pages. Otherwise, click No.

  5. Click the Getting Started icon and enter the following information replacing sunetid with your SUNet ID:

  7. Click the Sending Mail icon and enter the following information:

  8. Click the Junk Mail icon. In the Junk Mailbox area of the window, the recommended settings are:

    Note: These settings disable Eudora's automatic filtering of junk mail.  IT Services recommends disabling this "SpamWatch" feature because it requires you to "train" the filter to properly recognize what is and is not spam. Unless that is done, a significant percentage of legitimate email will be marked as spam.  IT Services instead recommends using its spam tagging system, which will be far more accurate without any training.

  10. Click the Content Concentrator icon. IT Services recommends turning this feature off by changing the settings to the following:

    Single Message Profiles, Preview Pane: None
    Multiple Messages, Profile: None
    Require matching subjects or senders: unchecked

    Note: You can read more about the Content Concentrator in the Eudora Manual or on Qualcomm's Eudora web site.

  11. Click OK.

    Eudora is now configured for your @stanford mail account. You can select other features in the settings panel and configure them to your preferences.
