Configuring Eudora
Note: If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Eudora, your configuration
settings are carried over.
The first time you launch Eudora you will be asked for some information in
the Settings window. If the Settings window does not open automatically,
go to the Special menu and click Settings.
- Open the Eudora Application Folder and double-click the Eudora icon.

- When asked if you want to use the system keychain, click No.

- When asked if you want to import mail from another program, click No
to continue or click Yes to import settings and mail (follow the on-screen
instructions).

- When asked if you want Eudora to be your default mail handler, click Yes if you want Eudora to be the mail application that opens automatically when you click on "mailto:" links on web pages. Otherwise, click No.

- Click the Getting Started icon and enter the following information
replacing sunetid with your SUNet ID:
User Name: your sunetid
Mail Server: sunetid.pobox.stanford.edu
Real Name: Your name as you would like it to appear in the "From:"
line when you send mail.
SMTP Server: smtp.stanford.edu
Email Address: sunetid@stanford.edu

- Click the Sending Mail icon and enter the following information:
- Email Address: your sunetid@stanford.edu
- Default Domain: stanford.edu
- SMTP Server: smtp.stanford.edu
- Use submission port (587): unchecked
- Allow authorization: unchecked (differs from screenshot below)
- Immediate send: checked
- Send on check: checked if desired
- Use separate thread for sending: checked

- Click the Junk Mail icon. In the Junk Mailbox
area of the window, the recommended settings are:
- Hold junk in Junk mailbox: unchecked
- Remove mail that is at least _ days old: unchecked
Note: These settings disable Eudora's automatic filtering of junk mail. IT Services recommends disabling this "SpamWatch" feature because it requires you to "train" the filter to properly recognize what is and is not spam. Unless that is done, a significant percentage of legitimate email will be marked as spam. IT Services instead recommends using its spam tagging system, which will be far more accurate without any training.
If you wish to use Eudora's SpamWatch feature to filter junk mail, see Qualcomm's SpamWatch tutorial for instructions.

- Click the Content Concentrator
icon. IT Services recommends turning this feature off by changing the settings
to the following:
Single Message Profiles, Preview Pane: None
Multiple Messages, Profile: None
Require matching subjects or senders: unchecked
Note: You can read more about the Content Concentrator in the Eudora Manual
or on Qualcomm's
Eudora web site.

- Click OK.
Eudora is now configured for your @stanford mail account. You can select other
features in the settings panel and configure them to your preferences.
