Evan Heit (UC Merced): Relations Between Memory and Reasoning

Evan Heit (UC Merced)
Jordan Hall (Building 420), Room 050

In this talk I will give an overview of three lines of work addressing relations between memory and reasoning.  The first two lines of work take concepts and modeling tools from memory research and apply them to unsolved, classic problems in reasoning research: how induction and deduction are related, and what is the best theory of the belief bias effect.  The third line of work directly compares memory and reasoning judgments on the same set of visual stimuli, aiming to predict reasoning from memory and develop a common model for both abilities.
