My research to date has focused on the causes and consequences of biodiversity in marine communities. In particular, I am interested in how processes such as dispersal structure consumer communities and feed back to influence the diversity and function of prey assemblages. As part of the Marine Life Observatory, I am interested in how consumers of the giant kelp Macrocystis pyrifera may interact with microbial communities that live on kelp surfaces. Specifically, my research investigates how herbivores and microbes have a mutually beneficial or antagonistic relationship.
